Because I'm writing a travel article this week, i thought i would do a quick primer on beginnings.
Where to start, and how?
by this i don't mean how to get to the page—how to sit at the desk/table/sofa etc and actually start. though i do have lots of ideas about that, for another time (see chapter 2 of Brief Flashings in the Phenomenal world).
i mean literally--where does a true story start?
when i'm not sure, and often I'm not (the more complicated the story i'm trying to tell, the less obvious its beginning), i've taught myself a few tried + true tactics:
