Bongiorno from Italy, where it’s 7 am and i’m out with a cup of espresso + the cuckoo birds, writing in my pjs before breakfast.
I’ve been getting up early all week, slipping out of my room so i don’t wake my roommates + sitting at a little stone table overlooking the vineyards with my notebook. I like to write first thing, in that space between sleeping and waking, when my mind is still dreamy and soft and the editor in my brain + my ego haven’t quite clocked in for the day.
The poet David whyte describes this little space in his poem “what to remember when waking.” He recited it to us on our first morning here.
